BORDER BANTER
Border Banter
July 13, 2020

The first meeting at Chelo's, since the beginning of the Pandemic shut down, was held today.  The attendance was small, with a couple of members on Zoom, but for those who were present, a sense of pleasure was felt by all after not seeing everyone in quite a while.
Betty Galligan presided at her first meeting as President, and called the meeting to order at 12:15 p.m.  The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by a prayer read by Betty.  Evereyone recited the Four Way Test.

Betty reminded everyone of the Club Installation of Officers, to be held on Monday, July 27, 2020 at the Hope Club in Providence.  Additional invitations are available for guests.  The Deadline for registration is July 23, 2020.

The August meetings will be held at Chelo's on August 3rd and August 17.  The August 3rd meeting will be a Club Assembly.  Future meetings will be held on the 1st and 3rd Mondays.

The Board will meet on August 24 at 5:30 p.m. at Haines Park.

Betty took a poll on the proposed Boat Ride to Newport and many people mentioned they could not get away at that time.  The plans will be put on hold for now, but Betty suggested individuals can still go on their own.

The District will be distributing face masks to clubs, which we will then distribute to Aldersbridge for Linn Health Care and Winslow Gardens.

Steve Propatier thanked Valerie for doing the club bulletin.

Lori is the Assistant Governor for our area and also the Assistant Governor Coordinator for the District.

Today's Guest Speaker was Jim Vincent, Compliance Officer for the Rhode Island Public Transportation Authority (RIPTA).  Jim talked about the challenges they had to deal with during this pandemic.  Because of the Covid-19, the ridership has declined significantly, going from 58,000 to about 14,000 per day, but has since increased to more than 21,000 per day.
RIPTA partnered with other state agencies, businesses, community groups an statewide non-profit organizations whenever possible.  An example was using the Commuter Resource RI team to deliver hundreds of food an essential supply kits to households in need.  RIPTA is confident that thanks to the hard work of their employees and the support of their passengers, they will emerge from the crisis stronger than before.    The RIDE buses have been used to deliver meals, etc. to help .
